Meet our Dean - dr. arthur warga
The Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston is on a path to greatness fueled by the support of a superb faculty, highly capable staff, passionate alumni, brilliant students and the generosity of business partners and leaders dedicated to the future of our youth and our nation. I have had the good fortune to serve as Bauer College’s Dean during some of the most exciting times in our sixty-year history. Shortly after I assumed my current role, our vision to become a premier metropolitan business school was jump-started by a $40 million gift from the College’s namesake, C. T. (Ted) Bauer in 2001.
Our top priority since receiving Ted’s extraordinary gift was to implement a strategic plan to achieve our vision. To that end, we have added a total of 64 new faculty members to our team, bringing our total faculty count to 152. Our finance and marketing departments were rated No. 8 and No. 9, respectively, in the U.S. by Academic Analytics in an article appearing in the Chronicle of Higher Education. From our Accountancy & Taxation, Decision and Information Sciences, Finance, Management, to Marketing & Entrepreneurship, our departments boast faculty experts who are highly sought by leading business and industry publications, online and broadcast media.
We have revamped the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, including the new Global Studies Sequence, the Professional Program in Accountancy, and a new eiLab where students can safely build and tear down complex security systems. Our recently launched Global Energy Executive MBA (GEMBA) program in Beijing truly reflects Bauer’s international reach. To date, more than 100 students representing two of China’s largest energy companies graduated from Bauer College. These students hold senior level positions and are China’s energy leaders.
We now have 10 research centers and institutes. We are the only comprehensive business school in the Houston area. Our departments have outstanding alumni advisory boards which add excitement and relevance to the departments’ programs.
Our efforts have not gone without notice. We recently garnered a top 40 ranking among public undergraduate schools of business from BusinessWeek. BusinessWeek also named our evening MBA program No. 1 in Houston, No. 4 in the region and No. 27 in the nation. Bloomberg Markets previously ranked our MBA programs 12th in the nation and 5th among public universities in producing CEOs of S&P 500 companies. A Financial Times’ evaluation of the top 75 EMBA programs in the world ranked our EMBA program 19th in the U.S. among publics. In 2007, The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine ranked our entrepreneurship program the #2 undergraduate program in the nation.
Our students continue to excel in their respective fields. A four-member team from Bauer’s Cougar Fund has bragging rights as the best student stock analysis team in the country and third in the world, according to the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute, outperforming other business school powerhouses, including MIT and Carnegie Mellon University. A large number of Bauer undergraduate and graduate students are being hired by the Big Four accounting firms, and Bauer continues to be at least as significant a resource for these companies as any other university in the nation. There is no shortage of success stories when it comes to Bauer students.
We are also proud of our diversity. According to the U.S. Department of Education, we are foremost in the nation for producing minority BBA’s in business, management, marketing and related support services. In the same categories, we are Texas’ top producer of African American and Asian BBA’s and second nationally for Hispanic BBA’s. With nearly 80 different languages spoken by our students and our largest "minority" being white, it is safe to say we define diversity.
Nothing speaks more directly to the quality of a Bauer education than our graduates’ track records. They lead some of today's most prominent corporations.
