CHINA AMBASSADOR: Yaping Gong  (mnygong@ust.hk)

 

 

Yaping Gong is an Associate Professor of Human Resources Management and Organizational Behavior at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University.

 

Dr. Gong’s research interests can be classified into four themes. The first theme pertains to the antecedents and impacts of HRM in multinational firms, cross-border alliances, and Chinese context (i.e., strategic HRM research in the international context). The second theme pertains to the relationship between systems of HRM practices and firm performance and associated mechanisms (i.e., strategic HRM research in general). The third theme pertains to goal orientation and cross-cultural adjustment (i.e., goal orientation research in the international context). The fourth theme pertains to goal orientation and employee creativity (goal orientation and creativity research in general). His work has been published or accepted for publication at Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Human Resource Management, Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, etc. He is currently sitting in the editorial board of Journal of Organizational Behavior.

 

Dr. Gong is an active member of the academic community. He has reviewed for many academic journals including Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, etc. He is a member of the Academy of Management, American Psychological Association, Academy of International Business, and International Association for Chinese Management Research (IACMR).

 

Dr. Gong’s teaching interests include HRM and OB. He has offered an introductory OB course, a course on group and teamwork, a Ph.D. seminar on HRM/OB. He has taught at the undergraduate, MBA and executive levels.

 

Dr. Gong’s hobbies include hiking and swimming.
