NEW ZEALAND AMBASSADOR: Jarrod Haar  (haar@mngt.waikato.ac.nz)

Dr Jarrod Haar (PhD), of Ngati Maniapoto and Ngati Mahuta descent, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Strategy & Human Resource Management. Jarrod received his PhD in Organisational Behaviour/Human Resource Management from the University of Waikato on work-family issues.

His research is primarily on work and family issues, including the influence of work-family practices on employee attitudes and the antecedents and consequences of the work-family interface including conflict and enrichment. He has researched these aspects in a number of cultural settings including New Zealand, Australia and more recently, Tanzania.

Associate Professor Haar is the principal investigator of a Marsden Grant starting in 2009 entitled 'The Role of Maori Cultural Support for Employees and Employers' which explores the role of Maori culture (the indigenous people of New Zealand) in the workplace. This research includes the role that traditional Maori customs plays for indigenous employees and conversely, how employers respond to their needs. The study will also include the roles that cultural demands may have on employed Maori, and the effect whanau (which includes a wide inter-generational family focus) may play as a support mechanism.

Associate Professor Haar teaches an undergraduate paper in business research methods and one postgraduate paper on entrepreneurship and another entitled competitive advantage from work-family issues. In addition to his work-family and indigenous research, Associate Professor Haar also researches on the strategic intent of New Zealand firms and the role of technology in firms, and is particularly interested in corporate entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial traits, including amongst indigenous peoples. He is widely published in local and international journals with over 85 refereed publications including 25 refereed journal articles, most recently in the International Journal of Human Resource Management and he recently co-edited a special issue on work-family issues in Australasia in the Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources.
