UNITED ARAB EMIRATE: Scott Martin (scott.martin@zu.ac.ae)

 

Dr. Scott Martin joined the College of Business Sciences at Zayed University in January 2008.  He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of human resource management.  His research focuses on customer service, performance improvement and using human resources to achieve strategic objectives.

 

Prior to joining Zayed University, Scott worked in various business organizations in the United States for twenty years.  He started his career in 1987 as an independent consultant providing services in the areas of performance management and training.  He worked for a variety of large organizations including IBM and General Electric. 

 

In 1990 he joined McGraw-Hill and developed selection systems to improve productivity and customer service.  Scott then worked for a large consulting firm, Development Dimensions International, and developed recruiting and selection systems for Pfizer and General Motors. 

 

In 2000 he joined Payless ShoeSource, a shoe retailer with 5,000 stores. He initially served as Director, Organization Development and led human resource initiatives to improve teamwork and customer service. He then served as Director, Human Resources and managed all human resource issues for the marketing, buying and store development departments.

 

Scott’s work has been published in leading management and psychology journals such as the Academy of Management Journal and the Journal of Applied Psychology.  He has also published in a variety of human resource magazines including Personnel Journal and HR Magazine. 

 

Scott received his Ph.D. in organizational psychology and quantitative analysis at The Ohio State University in the United States.
