UNITED KINGDOM AMBASSADOR: Graham Dietz  (graham.dietz@durham.ac.uk)

Dr Graham Dietz is a Lecturer in HRM at Durham Business School in the north east of England, and also the MA Programme Director. He completed his PhD at the London School of Economics on workplace 'partnership' agreements in 2002, and moved shortly after that to Erasmus Universiteit in Rotterdam to take up a post-doctoral post. He moved to Durham in January 2005.

His primary research interests are in the realm of trust-building and trust repair, and how this happens in organisations. The effects of different trust relationships (with immediate boss, with colleagues, with senior management) on employees' attitudes and behaviours such as commitment, extra effort, and intention to quit is one current research agenda, as is the trust-building processes involved in setting up works councils (Dietz & Fortin, IJHRM, 2006). He is also interested in how organisations who have failed in a significant way rebuild their reputation with their employees (Gillespie & Dietz, AMR, 2009).

He is also very interested in exploring the linkages between HRM practices and organisational performance, and has published a review article (Boselie, Dietz & Boon, HRMJ, 2005). He is currently doing research which looks at competing explanations for how HRM affects employees' attitudes and behaviours (i.e. different 'black box' candidates), including trust.

Finally, he is conducting research into 'employer branding' (how firms try to sell themselves as an employer to potential new recruits), and what signals attract people to join firms and what keeps them.
