Statistical Analysis
for Business Applications II
NOTE: For Computer Assignment 1, use the
data stored in drive K as instructed in class and below. DO NOT
USE the data in drive F.
Some notes for Computer Assignment 1
Downloading data sets: It is recommended (although not
necessary) that you first download the data sets for this course
and save them on a floppy drive. Click on Download
data sets and follow the instructions.
There are two important files for this first computer
assignment:
- DAYS1PM.DAT (data files, raw numbers, no explanation, no
titles);
- KUDATA.TXT (text file, description of the data recorded
on DAYS1PM.DAT).
You should print the KUDATA.TXT file.
RUNNING MINITAB UNDER WINDOWS 95 ON THE RICS2 NETWORK
The RICS2 network has been upgraded to Windows 95.
- To start MINITAB, click "Start / Programs / CBA
Applications / Minitab".
- Once MINITAB opens, click on the "Session
Window". If you don't see the "MTB>"
prompt, click "Editor / Enable Command
Language". You may enter the MINITAB commands at the
"MTB>" prompt.
- It is not longer necessary to give an "OUTFILE"
command.
- Do not give the "STOP" command.
- To save any MINITAB window, click on that window, and
then click "File / Save Window As ...".
- To save the MINITAB worksheet, select "File / Save
Worksheet As".
- To print any MINITAB window, click on that window, and
then click "File / Print Window".
- The READ command in Computer Assignment 1 should be
changed to
READ 'K:\DATFILES\STAT\DAYS1PM.DAT' C1-C11
if your DAYS1PM.DAT file is on the K:\DATFILES\STAT
directory, or to
READ 'A:\DAYS1PM.DAT' C1-C11
if your DAYS1PM.DAT file is on the A:\DATFILES\STAT
directory.
TO PRINT A TEXT FILE WITH WINDOWS EXPLORER
- Select "Start / Programs / Windows Explorer".
- Select the .TXT file you want to print. Right click on
that file and select "Print". This should work
as long as your workstation has a default printer. If
not, ask for assistance on how to define a default
printer.
- You may use this procedure to print the
'K:\DATFILES\STAT\KUDATA.TXT' file for Computer
Assignment 1.
RUNNING MINITAB 6.1 UNDER DOS
If you prefer, you may run MINITAB 6.1 under DOS. To do this,
- select "Start / Programs / MS DOS prompt"
(alternatively, you may select "Start / Shut Down /
Restart the computer in MS DOS mode");
- type MTB at the DOS prompt.
