The Professional Program of Accountancy (PPA) is a 5-year program that culminates with a BBA in Accounting and Master of Science in Accountancy (MSACCY). Undergraduate coursework provides a solid foundation while graduate school enhances success skills. The latter helped me make a smooth transition into the professional workplace.
The challenging curriculum meets the Texas CPA requirements and offers flexible schedules during the day, night, weekend, and online. One of my favorite classes was Professional Accounting Communication because partners of top accounting firms provided live feedback on our class presentations. There are also numerous networking opportunities with potential employers and alumni.
MSACCY students come from diverse backgrounds but we all share the drive for knowledge and sustainable impact. During my year in graduate school, I completed three internships, studied abroad in Berlin, attended a national conference, and participated in a student organization. I was also awarded multiple scholarships specifically earmarked for accounting students.
The UH Bauer College of Business is not a place where you simply show up and go home. You develop into a leader while cultivating mutually beneficial relationships. I am proud to be a Bauer MSACCY graduate. Go Coogs!
I studied in the Master of Science in Accountancy (MSACCY) program concurrently with working for a tax consulting company and studying and sitting for the CPA exams. I would try and wake up early enough to study at least an hour for the CPA exams and spend 30 minutes on activities important to me. During lunch I would study for that evening’s class and would continue studying following the class. I even set up weekend “boot camps” with “classes” which consisted either of CPA or school studies/projects.
The professors at Bauer are very thoughtful and supportive of student’s efforts to pursue a degree while working. I felt challenged because they not only helped me think through the logic/philosophy of what we were learning but would help me apply what I was learning in the classroom to various work projects.
My fellow classmates were hardworking and smart. I really enjoyed working on projects with them and everyone supported one another. With the professors and my fellow students support I was able to progress in my career and successfully complete all four components of the CPA exam before graduating from the MSACCY program.
I choose to attend University of Houston for both my BBA in Accounting and MS Accountancy degrees because Bauer offers a comprehensive program for both called the Professional Program in Accountancy (PPA). As part of PPA, student can complete their bachelor and master’s degrees in 5 years. This accelerated program was perfect for what I was looking for because I am an individual that strives to be diligent.
Bauer provides students with ample opportunities to meet and network with potential employers. Additionally, there are opportunities for Master of Science in Accountancy (MSACCY) students to interact with employers in their classes. Bauer is also fortunate to have top industry insight from professionals. To highlight, Dr. Mohan Kuruvilla is an audit professor and President of TXCPA Houston. Dr. Kuruvilla, as well as the other MSACCY faculty members, are knowledgeable and actively involved in the accounting industry, bringing their insight into the classroom and ultimately leading student success.
While in the MSACCY program, I obtained the Assurance/Finance Reporting Certificate. The certificate is designed to help students prepare for a career in public accounting or industry in accounting focused roles. As a recent graduate, I am about to embark on my career as an auditor at a Big Four firm. My ultimate goal is to become an expert in the field of accounting and eventually apply the knowledge I’ve obtained to a leadership position within the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).
Originally from the Philippines, my family and I decided to move to Houston nine years ago. After graduating with my Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting from the University of Houston, I knew I wanted to pursue my graduate career with the Master of Science in Accountancy (MSACCY) program. While in the program, I chose the Audit track and focused on acquiring multiple certificates such as Assurance and Advanced Internal Audit. The MSACCY program was a valuable tool for me to develop personal and professional skills, as well as expanding my professional network. Bauer gave me many opportunities to develop and grow into the person I am today.
After finishing my Bachelor of Business Administration, I chose to complete my Master of Science in Accountancy (MSACCY) degree at the C.T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston. A major draw to Bauer were the professors. Many of the professors I encountered impressed me because they related the material to personal experiences in the industry. I feel that the valuable insight they provided further enhanced my education.
I also took advantage of the Rockwell Career Center (RCC) while I was in the MSACCY program. RCC helps students grow beyond the classroom by offering career fairs, resume reviews, mock interviews, and much more. Their mentoring and coaching enabled me to secure multiple internships that resulted in a full-time offer.
During my time in the program, I came to know the advisors and they were always willing to meet with me one-on-one to help me select my class schedule. I also took advantage of many of the events and services that they provided, such as the MSACCY Social.
With all of the benefits and resources that Bauer has available for students, there is no other institution I would have preferred to attend for my masters.
Bauer’s Master of Science in Accountancy (MSACCY) program gave me the foundation that I would need to be successful in my career. The program addresses not only technical, but also soft skills to develop well-rounded professionals, and gives students the opportunity to practice those abilities before stepping out of the classroom. In a professional setting, the curriculum translates very well.
Aside from an education, I gained a network of respected academics and professionals that I can reach out to any time. People who truly care about my personal and professional development that I can turn to for guidance. The faculty also expose you to exciting technologies and tools that vastly expand your skillset and available tools.

After completing the prerequisites in CAP I applied and was accepted into the MSACCY program.

Deciding to pursue my Master of Science in Accountancy (MSACCY) degree at Bauer was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The transition from my Bachelor’s to my Master’s as part of the Professional Program in Accountancy (PPA) was a smooth process. I was able to build upon my accounting knowledge and better prepare myself for my accounting specialization in audit and risk assurance.
The MSACCY curriculum has a variety of offerings based on accounting specializations and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) eligibility needs. I felt well prepared as I reviewed for my CPA exams because of my experience at Bauer. Additionally, I am a former president of the Gamma Delta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi. I continue volunteering as an alumna through Beta Alpha Psi’s mentorship program. I was honored to be accepted into the University of Houston’s Master of Science in Accountancy program (MSACCY) and I could not be happier with the education I received. This program allows you to focus on your desired concentration, and mine was the Assurance/Financial Reporting track. My program was extremely diverse and allowed me to expand my education, branching out into new fields of study. I studied Data Analytics, which was extremely challenging but a wonderful opportunity for learning.
The MSACCY program is flexible with scheduling so it can accommodate those who work or are participating in other activities. For instance, I was a University of Houston (UH) cheerleader. I successfully balanced classes and homework amidst a schedule full of cheerleading practices, appearances and athletics events. My professors and advisors helped me juggle my busy schedule. The professors at University of Houston care about their students, offer assistance when needed and are understanding. They exceeded my expectations and helped me learn challenging material.
