Risk Management & Insurance Faculty:
Mr. Rogers joins the University of Houston after a distinguished 31 year career with the Wortham Insurance Group, a highly respected regional agency headquartered in Houston with offices in several major Texas cities. During his tenure with Wortham, Mr. Rogers designed and implemented complete insurance and risk management plans for major Houston businesses. Additionally, Mr. Rogers has taught in professional certification programs and for organizations such as the Houston Independent Insurance Agents Association and the Risk and Insurance Managers Society (RIMS) of Houston. He began his collegiate teaching career in 2008 as an Adjunct Professor and then, upon retirement in 2012, assumed duties as a full time professor at the Bauer College of Business. Noted for conducting interesting interactive classes, Mr. Rogers brings his vast experience to bear in facilitating real-world solutions to risk problems through case study and group discussion.
Mr. Kapatos has served as a practicing risk manager in the areas of enterprise risk management, insurance, and strategic planning with global companies for over twenty years. He is now President and Principal Consultant of Odyssey Risk Services, a risk management consulting firm for financial institutions. Mr. Kapatos previously held several teaching positions including an adjunct professorship at Lehman College at the City University of New York. At Bauer, his personal goal is to provide students with relevant knowledge about risk management and insurance through real world examples and to give students the ability to analyze and respond to risks they will face in the business world and in their personal lives.
Mr. Hong is a graduate of the University of Houston and the Bauer College of Business. He is very active in the University of Houston Alumni Association, University of Houston Athletics, past President of the Bauer College Alumni Association, current President of the H-Association and other supporting organizations.
Experience: Principal of HONG FINANCIAL, an independent insurance brokerage, bringing 9 years of experience in life insurance, retirement, benefits and executive planning to the classroom. Known for his enthusiasm in subject matter expertise, Mr. Hong is considered one of the most engaging members of our faculty. He teaches FINA 4397 - Life Insurance and Annuities.
At Bauer: This course applies life insurance and annuity planning principals to real world situations. Students will learn about the different aspects of life insurance and annuities that are relevant to everyday life. A case study is an application that is used for all learning objectives used throughout the course.
