Bauer College SURE Program Graduates Turn Business Ideas Into Reality

Participants at the Independence Heights Neighborhood Center location completed the 12 week Bauer SURE Program and celebrated their success during a Dec. 7 graduation event and the first ever Pitch Day. Many outstanding Houston community members were in attendance to support our Program Participants, including Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman Al Green, State Representative Ron Reynolds, UH Vice President of Community Relations & Institutional Access Elwyn Lee, Bauer College Dean Latha Ramchand, Bauer Department Accountancy & Taxation Chair Kaye Newberry, Laurie Vignaud and Marvett Howard of Capital One Bank. Capital One Bank provided the funding for laptops received by program participants upon entering the program, as well as lunches for the graduation event. Prasad Menon of Bayou Microfund and representatives of Kiva participated in the judging panel for Pitch Day. Click here to see photos of the event.

State Representative Ron Reynolds, Bauer College Department of Accountancy & Taxation Chair Kaye Newberry, Microfinance Professor Saleha Khumawala, Congressman Al Green, Bauer College Dean Latha Ramchand and Capital One Senior Vice President of Community Development Laurie Vignaud attended a ceremony at the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston recognizing the graduation of 44 SURE program participants.
