Emerging Leaders Academic Success Program

Fall 2017-Spring 2018 Peer Leaders

Each new student will be assigned a Peer Leader, a Bauer upperclassmen, who will be their personal guide for “How to do Bauer.” Bauer students will make up a team that will meet for a bi-weekly seminar led by their Peer Leader.

A freshmen student can expect their Peer Leader to help them with:

  • Meeting new people
  • Getting them connected to campus activities, clubs and organizations
  • Help navigating the UH campus
  • Learn strategies for being successful in classes (ex. how to interact with your professors, organize study groups, etc.)
  • Learn about and use academic and personal support resources at the university; such as the Writing Center, Learning Support Services, Health Center, etc.

Why ELASP?: To help me with my transition from high school to college, to meet new people, and to learn about all the wonderful things Bauer has to offer!

Rajni Bhavsar

Rajni Bhavsar

Major: Accounting and PPA Program.

Why ELASP?: I joined because I wanted to become a part of the Bauer community and ELASP helped connect me to so many business students and faculty members! ELASP wants to ease the transition for students who are coming from high school or other universities by introducing them to a variety of resources offered by the Bauer College. I loved the idea of getting a mentor who could share their experiences with me and advise me professionally and personally. This organization gave me the opportunity to understand my strengths, learn how to excel academically, and most importantly, allowed me to build relationships with my mentor and other business students.

Jessica Eloisa

Major: Management Information Systems

Why ELASP?: I joined elasp because I want to make a difference in at least one person’s life. I want to use the knowledge I have gained from my first two years of college and share it with first year college students who don't really know what exactly to expect. I want to help build a sense of family within my cohorts and help my mentees become more comfortable with taking initiative and start building those lifelong relationships. I'm looking forward to a GREAT year!

Why ELASP?: I became a mentor because I wanted to inspire the future generation of Bauer leaders like I was inspired by my mentor and peers when I was in the program last year. I joined ELASP my first year because I wanted to be involved on campus and to improve my leadership and communication skills for my future career in Management Information Systems.

Saige Reid

Saige Reid

Major: Management Information Systems

Why ELASP?: I joined ELASP my first semester to get connected with other students in Bauer. Joining ELASP helped me to make friends who I probably would not have met otherwise. I also learned lots of valuable skills to help me be a better student and a better professional. ELASP has made me confident in myself and in others. I definitely want other students to experience this program.

Nina Resendiz

Nina Resendiz

Major: Human Resources Management and Marketing

Why ELASP?: Although I wasn't in ELASP as a freshman, the reason I wanted to be a Peer Mentor was because I wish I had been in ELASP as a freshman. If I had had someone to mentor me when I first got to UH, I think I would have been a lot more confident in myself as a freshman and done a lot better. I want to be the person who tells freshman to have faith in themselves and that everything will work out in the end.
